The “constitutional” Right, ever solicitous of rights and sechlike just engaged in a massive blog purge:
‘Mass firing’ at conservative site RedState
Brian Stelter / CNNMoneySalem Media, owner of the influential conservative outlet RedState, froze the site on Friday and dismissed many of its writers. — Bloggers were locked out of their accounts — some just temporarily, while the cuts were made, and others permanently.
Salem Media, of course, was Sinclair Broadcasting BEFORE Sinclair Broadcasting was Sinclair. They bought up all of Tom Phillips’ properties: Regnery Press, blogs RedState and HotAir and other blog, newsletter and publishing properties, to go along with their radio holdings. I have covered this extensively elsewhere. This is, as such, somewhat unsurprising. RedState’s bloggers have been critical of the Trump Administrations various scandals and insanities, and I rather wondered why they weren’t marching in lockstep (or goose-step, according to your perceptions), and now I have my answer.
Management was ANGERED that THE LEADER wasn’t being properly osculated a posteriori, if you catch my drift.
And now, like all impertinent amanuenses, they have been fired.
Let this be a lesson to the “constitutional” right: if you dare criticize the leader, you aren’t supporting all the “freedom” that inheres within Right Wing “philosophy” — most especially the notion that ALL Rightie Truths are Self-Evident, and any variance from them proves that you aren’t a “True Conservative.” And, therefore, are a threat to “freedom.”
Still, it is, in my experience, the first time that I can recall rats swimming TOWARDS a sinking ship.
The Scott Pruitt Wing of the GOP nurturing the environment
If you intend to enter the lucrative field of repeating the talking points, remember that no variance is allowed.
Thus is our freedom defended.
Erick Erickson, who essentially founded and ran the blog until Phillips sold it to Salem, and was thence purged himself, has offered the newly-purged positions on his blog-in-exile:
The site name will linger, but RedState is all but dead now. I have invited the fired writers here.
When RedState started in 2004, it was about collaborating between all sides of the GOP and, after I took over, had a real grassroots focus. Since the Salem purchase of Eagle Publishing, the grassroots focus went away as did the community building aspect in favor of clickbait with analysis….
Of the Germans, it was said that they’d always follow the man on the horse. Of modern Republicans, this is still true, save that they only require the horse’s ass.
Courage.
