Having kids is a lifelong commitment. I don’t mean until your babe is 18 years old, or forty five years old. It is forever.
Once you have a child it never feels like an obligation, but of course it is.
For me, politics, literature, humor, love and the very reason for life itself took on new meaning and context after having children.
Life started to makes more sense to me.
From the day my children became part of my family I have forever worn a piece of my heart on my sleeve.
Nothing can give you the depth of love or the level of pain that a child can.
Nothing can be as satisfying or as frustrating once you undertake the responsibility (not even a spouse).
On another thread I commented to a father, paraphrasing, thank you for your wisdom and your compassion. What I wanted to say was “I understand”, because I do.
