A Special Day

My niece Lotte

Yesterday evening: my brother-in-law phones us, my sister was having contractions. She was almost 42 weeks pregnant. If the baby wouldn’t be here by Thursday morning 7.30 they would – to put it bluntly – go in and take it. Because the contractions were so bad / severe, my mother advised them to go to the hospital immediately. My sister wanted my mother and father to be present, they wanted to be present as well, so they took off.

Last night, 1 AM: baby still not born. Contractions getting worse.

Today, 2.45 PM: phone call. My sister on the line (corrected): she just (well, actually an hour before) gave birth to a beautiful little girl. All in all, they’ve got two now. The other one is three years old. After that talked to mother, probably the world’s proudest mother and grandmother.

My brother-in-law sent me a picture of the little baby immediately once he arrived home (30 minutes ago), I have published at the top of this post. She looks absolutely beautiful and very, very sweet.

I know… this blog is about politics (and books and movies, etc) and not about babies being born, but I wanted to take the time to congratulate my sister and brother-in-law with their wonderful baby. I’m incredibly happy for them (and for my parents and myself of course). I thank God for his blessings. It’s a wonderful day.

    Congratulations!

  • Thank you!

(I edited my post by the way: I spoke to both my sister and mother, but it was my sister herself who originally called… I’m sorry: am a bit you know, chaotic I guess)

Beautiful! Congrats to you and the rest of your family, Michael.

  • Thank you!

  • Congratulations, Uncle Michael!
    😀

And best wishes for your sister’s little family.
Hmm, is ‘Lotte’ short for ‘Charlotte’?
That’s the name of my late grandma…
    🙂

  • Congrats, man. Kids are beautiful, even my smart-mouthed 17 year old son. Enjoy the wonderful experience. I’m an uncle to 10 different kids, ranging in age from 8 to 27. It’s cool being the uncle — you get to ruin the kids with gifts and the like that you can’t get away with, with your own kids!

  • Congratulations to your entire family, Michael! Births are moments of such great joy. Lotte is absolutely adorable.

  • Gray: no in her case it’s not short for Charlotte. Just Lotte. and… thank you!

Yes exactly! And the wonderful thing is… in the end, you’re not responsible for them!

    😉

    Pat: thank you! Greatly appreciated.

    How lovely! Congrats!

  • Beautiful baby. Beautiful name. My she grow up in a better world.

  • Mazel Tov! Babies are always a hit and she’s a pretty one!

  • George, Shaun and Holly: thank you very much.

I remember that when my sister gave birth to her a first baby girl and I held her… I instantly considered her to be part of the family. One immediately feels that bond. It was extraordinary. Incredibly amazing.

It truly is wonderful. I always said that I did not want to have children of my own… until I saw Naomi (the first child).

Congratulations! What a beautiful baby! You must be a very proud uncle!

  • I am Lynx! For the second time. My other niece, Naomi, is absolutely adorable (and quite a feisty – I believe that that’s the expression – lady I may add: she knows very much what she wants and doesn’t want… and makes it known).

  • continued… “adorable […]” as well. Lotte already seems to have the same mentality! Haha, my mother always said to me and my sister “wait until you have children, I hope they’re just like the two of you”

heh. and now my sister’s got that.

    hehe.

Anyway: it really is great. Being an uncle I mean.

  • She’s adorable, Michael. Of course I’ve got a major weakness for little ones. Love ’em all.

  • Laura

    Congratulations! She’s absolutely adorable.
