A Little Bit More Grace in Politics

Dennis Sanders published a great post today, calling for more grace in politics. Excerpt (but read the whole thing):

Grace is something that is missing in American politics. It’s grace that allows us to see each other as fallible humans instead of arbiters of truth. Mr. Dowd thought he was doing the right thing and now he thinks he was wrong. In a political culture when we never want to admit we were wrong, I think what Mr. Dowd did was important and should celebrated, not condemned by arrogant blowhards.

I agree completely.

I also agree, but with a caveat: sincerity is a necessary prerequisite.

Perhaps I’m overly cynical, and I have no knowledge of what is in Mr. Dowd’s heart, but it strikes me that a lot of ‘grace’ moments occur when it’s politically or commercially expedient.
