Took a week or so off from blogging. This morning, however, I have a few rants on the topics of the day.
Helen Thomas: what is the big deal? Just because she said that Jewish people should move back to Europe. White folks in the south, as well as black separatists, have been saying that black people should go back to Africa for almost two hundred years (see Liberia). Helen Thomas does not make policy for the United States. The outrage is better served to be centered on the BP spill than a 90 year old woman who should know how to keep her thoughts to herself.
Speaking of the Oil Spill: If this was George W., this spill would have been fixed by now. The media outrage is not nearly the level it would be if W was still president. I do not know why there should be a difference. Is is race or being a democrat? Bush would have fixed this or be threatened with impeachment.
D-Day, Obama and Thomas: I do not pretend to know what was going on in Helen Thomas’ head but maybe she was speaking to the passage of time. President Obama decided that it was unnecessary to attend the 66th D-Day celebration in Normandy. Once a staple on the presidential schedule, Obama decided that while the date is important to American (and world) history, he had better things to do that were more relevant to his presidency.
Just a few thoughts. Feel free to add your own…
