Barack Obama Faces a Firestorm of Denunciations Over Health Care Reform

From Democrats who blame him for what seems to be its likely incarnation and for not fighting hard enough for what progressives sought.

Well, I think many on the left are justified in their anger. Obama didn't really get into the mix and tell people to get the job done; he just gave Pelosi and Reid some outline of what he wanted done and from there it seems the whole thing turned into a wish list for everyone in Congress. He set many deadlines that were laughed at (pass before August recess??). I think DaMav pointed this out on Kathy's previous thread, regarding the so-called filibuster-proof majority the Dems have, but take it from John Aravosis over at AMERICAblog:

We lost real health care reform not because we don't have a “real” filibuster-proof majority in the Senate. We lost health care reform because we don't have a real leader anywhere in our party. It's not going to get better if we elect more Democrats to the Senate and it's not going to play out any differently should we try to revisit this issue in the future.

    (emphasis mine) Ouch…

    WHAT?!

No president in my life has ever fought harder on ANY issue than President Obama has on healthcare!

He has risked everything! What President in our mutual lifetimes Joe, has risked so much for anything?

I can't believe this. Agree or not, give the man credit for courage and tenacity!

    Father_Time,

How many times do you have to have your thumb hit with the hammer before it dawns on you you have your hand in the wrong place?

    Good lord, man!

Obama TALKS a good game…I'll give him that much….but he might as well wear white gloves around, because he never…….ever……deigns to do any lifting.

Obama is about a week away from defacto lame duck status. Cap and trade? immigration? green stuff?……fuggetabowdit.

  4. Father_Time says:

What “Heavy Lifting” are you talking about? He has done his job. Everybody knows it's the republicans that want everybody poor, stupid, and, forgotten.

IMO There is no more important issue than healthcare. People affected by the cost are still young enough to fight. Do it now, or these people will be dragging the rich crap out of their cars and blowing their brains out in the street within five years….and we all have guns.

“What President in our mutual lifetimes “

LBJ jumps to mind when he ramrodded hs Great Society legislation through dispite being from Texas. He fought Republicans and Dixiecrats alike, and his arm twisting is legendary. This piece of legislation gets lost behind the cloud of Viet Nam.

I have backed Obama since Iowa, but his fatal assumption has been to give Reid and Pelosi moral credit they don't have. He fails to realize that Congress would rather be re-elected more than do what is right for the country. LBJ didn't care much what your base said, he just “persuaded” you that life in Washington would be worse than defeat if you voted against his wishes.

LBJ's arm-twisting noteriety is somewhat exaggerated. He never changed a vote by threatening. He sometimes got the retribution he wanted…he beat Virginia Senator A. Willis Robertson in a primary for opposing his agenda, but Robertson still opposed his agenda and forced Johnson to make up his vote by watering down Medicare and Civil Rights to get a Republican vote.
