William Safire, 1929-2009
William Safire has died at the age of 79. He had pancreatic cancer. Same thing that killed Dan Fogelberg, although in his case at a much younger age.
The New York Times has a lengthy obituary, and there are several other articles there about Safire as well.

Thats a terrible way to go and I wouldn't wish it on anyone, having seen its toll on a loved one first hand.
I loved Safire! Pancreatic cancer is also what sent Ruth Ginsburg into the hospital this past February.
I thought about Ginsburg after I posted.
