In order to protect our country from the anecdotal scourge of murderous rapist foreigners, first it is important to declare war on one’s own cities:
AG Jeff Sessions takes aim at sanctuary cities, says DOJ will cut funding
Meghan Keneally / ABC News— Attorney General Jeff Sessions made a surprise appearance at today’s White House press briefing, slamming cities that are working to actively ignore the federal law to turn over people who are living in the country illegally….
Come to think of it, the cities are just the latest in a long string of declarations of war this maladministration is heir to: the ongoing war against the press, the idiotic angering, insulting and angering of our allies: i.e. Trump’s astonishingly boorish presentation to German Chancellor Angela Merkel of an “invoice” to pay NATO £300 billion.
Sessions declares his Alabama stern parenthood to America’s cities:
Sessions said he “strongly urges” these cities, known as sanctuary cities, to “consider carefully” the damage they are doing to national security and public safety by refusing to enforce immigration laws. “Unfortunately some states and cities have adopted policies designed to frustrate the enforcement of immigration laws,” including refusing to detain nonfelons on federal detainer requests …
Why does this sound so suspiciously like the Police State calling the infamous Waaaaahmbulance?
Increasingly, we’re seeing the true authoritarian bent of this new legal reality, as ICE agents take on the paramilitary swagger formerly reserved for the DEA and, prior to that, Hoover’s FBI. Several state supreme court Chief Justices (including my own) have written formal letters of protest to ICE, asking them to stop skulking around courthouses looking for anyone in the country illegally. They are, ironically, inhibiting the administration of justice as a whole by their newfound mandate to single-mindedly administer the narrow scope of laws that THEY are charged with administering.
And consider the irony of demanding cooperation of cities with THOSE laws (which, lawfully, I’m pretty sure there is no mandate that cities comply with; old Joe Arpaio in Phoenix tried to enforce immigration laws with his county mounties and got estopped by Federal Courts: thanks, but no thanks. NOT your jurisdiction).
So Jeff’s just a tiny bit whiny herein. Indeed, the “funds” they’re considering withholding are smallish ‘grants’ to cities, and not what you’d call major budget items. Jeff and Donald just can’t handle lawfully elected representatives of We, the People, extending a middle finger to the false “crisis” of illegals pouring over the Southern Border and raping high school girls.
Oh, and the murderer couldn’t hump the corpse harder than this:
He brought up the death of Kate Steinle, a woman who was allegedly shot and killed by an unauthorized immigrant on a San Francisco pier last summer. Donald Trump repeatedly cited her death during the presidential campaign when he called for an end to sanctuary cities.
The entire campaign is anecdotal*, just as Jeff Sessions’ jawboning and threats are credible in the manner that a barking chihuahua is credible as a vicious attack dog.
[* Anecdotal as in ‘We tell you a story AS IF it were representational,’ EVEN THOUGH statistics prove that story to be the exception, rather than the rule. Net “illegal” immigration is negative — more leaving than entering — and “illegals” are LESS likely to commit crimes than your average lout on the street, but facts are not what might be charitably termed a valued commodity in this administration.]
Oooh. Another White House press briefing!
The childish pettiness of this orgy of chaos known as the Trump Administration is, frankly, at the limits of credulity, and yet there it is, steaming in the street before us, as the fresh equine souvenirs of an earlier, pre-automobile age used to steam in the cold of the pre-dawn cobblestones.
Supposedly the preterite voters of the uneducated working class white set wanted to set off a stink bomb in the corridors of power.
If that was their desire, they have succeeded.
One of these things is not like the others …
