South Carolina Governor-to-be Henry Dargan McMaster is currently set to be in the elected office he has worked toward his entire career spreading over four decades.
His family started out serving the people through the House of Representatives and in law. The first blacks that were admitted to practice law in South Carolina were alive when his family started Tompkins and McMaster in 1898. It was puzzling that blacks could be represented in court for a legal action but we could not arrest anybody during those times. Accordingly, his family was there to be active onlookers to everyone having the opportunity to serve their state. McMaster may be a member of private social clubs that some blacks are critical of but he has not brought the antebellum culture through any of his actions.
McMaster has kept church and state distinct like the Constitution says. McMaster has not let Ancient Roman Empire principles affect his practice of law unsuitably. McMaster has not let the legal Latin’s cultural origins that he learned overshadow the Supreme Being that is in our nation’s first official motto. McMaster has surprised many African-Americans by showing up to historically black colleges and universities for events like my fraternity brother Rep. Joseph Neal said in a The State article.
I volunteered on his campaign for Lt. Governor and he congratulated me for making the most calls in the phone bank in the little time I was there. He has hired the second African-American male to serve in the Gov. and Lt. Gov’s office thru Washington and Lee Law graduate Jason Brown, for who is a special pal of mine.
His daughter Mary went to College of Charleston and son Henry Jr. went to USC with me. Furthermore, I helped his daughter get acting advice from people who have worked with Clint Eastwood, Amanda Bynes, TVOne, and Discovery ID since she is an aspiring actress. I spoke to a political scientist from Texas about his forthcoming governorship and she told me he is qualified and has a lot of accomplishments, but the newspaper articles about him do not show the substance of his political career.
A few law enforcement officers said they are glad that Henry McMaster will be in office but it is hard to absorb the news that Gov. Nikki Haley will be leaving to go to Washington to be an Ambassador. However, they do hope that Governor-to-be McMaster is more lenient with pay raises for state employees which I said he may be unlike some of our governors. Governor-to-be Henry McMaster will continue the success of Gov Haley and build his successful governorship for South Carolina.
Jordan Thomas Cooper is a 2015 graduate of the University of South Carolina with a degree in History and a 2010 graduate of the RealEstate School of Success in Irmo. He is the first African-American to serve in both the governor and lieutenant governor’s office as an aide and first to serve in the Inspector General’s Office in S.C. (Haley) He is also the first person to serve in the top three offices in the gubernatorial line of succession in South Carolina (Haley, Bauer, McConnell). He says research shows he is the second black presidential campaign speechwriter in American history and the first for a GOP presidential campaign (Bush 2015). He also played football for Coach Steve Spurrier.
