I’ll be honest up front, I opposed the initial invasion and occupation of Iraq but in an area made up largely of bad actors ISIS (ISIL) are the baddest of them all, so bad in fact that even al-Quada has denied any association with them.  Dorian covered the recent US involvement below.   I still think the Iraq war was one of the greatest blunders in American history but that said but that said I still think we owe the Iraqi people whose country we broke something.  We need to protect religious minorities like the Yazidi  from these monsters but in addition we need to protect the Kurd s.  In our own self interests in addition to humanitarian reasons the city of Erbil  must not be allowed to fall to ISIS forces.  It would be best if we could do it all with air strikes but if necessary I wouldn’t object to a few special forces boots on the ground.

It is ironic that we suddenly find ourselves on the same side with Iran and Assad but reality works in strange ways sometimes.
