Two icons of classic television have passed away today.

Russell Johnson aka the Professor on Gilligan’s Island has died at age 89

Although he was best known for that role he was also a long time character actor in Westerns.

As the Professor he was often asked why he couldn’t repair the boat.

His stock response was “If you were stranded on a desert island with Ginger and Mary Ann would *you* fix the boat ?”

Also passing was Dave Madden who died at the age of 82.

He was best known for the Partridge Family but also was a regular on Alice as the basketball coach and sometimes boyfriend to Alice.
