One of the things that you don’t hear much about when it comes to individual privacy is how great an enemy of it the private sector is. So many people are so worried about what the government is doing or might be doing that they ignore what private businesses are already doing. One of the current standard practices is to run a credit check when considering someone for a job. Since there is no correlation between job performance and credit rating why do they do this? Why should they even be able to do this? There are laws that govern other questions that some employers would like to ask so why shouldn’t your credit rating be one of them? Elizabeth Warren thinks it should be and I agree.
