Mitt Romney spoke at Veterans of Foreign Wars Convention Tuesday slamming President Obama saying he doesn’t deserve a second term in office because his policies haven’t fixed the economic problems and he has diminished American leadership. Wow, any more than George W. Bush? Romney said Obama has exposed the military “to cuts no-one can justify” and that his administration has compromised national security secrets. He went for the jugular saying “in dealings with other nations, this president has given trust where it was not earned, insult where it was not deserved and apology where it was not due.” He warned that the VA system will be weaken by the trillion dollars in cuts to the military the Obama Administration is pushing. Funny Romney should attack the president on that, since Republicans also signed that legislation for $50 billion in cuts — 175 in the House and 29 in the Senate.
Romney slammed Obama on the covert intelligence leaks, that even a Democratic Senator Diane Feinstein said some ‘intel leaks’ came from someone at the White House. By the way, Diane Feinstein has backtracked on her comments, saying “I stated that I did not believe the president leaked classified information. I shouldn’t have speculated beyond that, because the fact of the matter is I don’t know the source of the leaks,” the Hill reports. Romney called the leak “contemptible” and said such action betrays the national interest, compromises troops in the field and demands a full and prompt investigation. He vows that his White House won’t leak intelligence information. Really? Does Scooter Libby come to anyone’s mind?
He says Obama is fond of lecturing Israel’s leaders, saying he has undermined their positions, while trying to cozy up to Russia and Vladimir Putin. This may be the best speech Mitt Romney has given for Mitt Romney, but before I give him rave reviews, his assertions need to be fact-checked since he has a history of taking things out of context, flip-flopping and embellishing the truth. Of course, I am being sarcastic. Mitt Romney’s belligerence is laughable at best. On a slightly different note, I recall during the 2008 presidential campaign, I was bothered with then-candidate Barack Obama saying he was going to close Guantanamo Bay the moment he got into office. I didn’t think it was an easy feat then, since he may not have been privy to all the information his predecessor had. Well, Mitt Romney is saying much of the same things — he will go to bat against China for manipulating its currency, among other things. Yeah, blah, blah, blah. That’s all good and well, but will he really do it if he is elected president? The one thing I hate about politics is the posturing and building castles in the sky. Mitt Romney needs to learn nobody likes a bully, not even on the world stage. I can well imagine that Vladimir Putin is chuckling at his empty threats, much like the Chinese. Mitt Romney, go ahead, make our day!
