The Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office has released the names of victims killed in Friday’s shooting at an Aurora theater during the premiere of “Dark Knight Rises.” Gun advocate and enthusiast actor Stephen Baldwin told CNN’s Don Lemon a red flag should have gone up when James Holmes purchased 6,000 rounds and equipment in such a short period of time. He said the Patriot Act put certain procedures in place such as monitoring, but as “technology advances, maybe there should be some new thinking.”

Eleven victims have been definitively identified. They are: Jessica Ghawi, Veronica Moser-Sullivan, John T. Larimer, Alexander J. Boik, Jesse E. Childress, Jonathan T. Blunk, Rebecca Wingo, Alex M. Sullivan, Gordon Cowden, Micayla Medek and Alexander Teves. The coroner’s office said Matthew McQuinn has been presumptively identified. All families have been notified.

The NY Daily News editorial board is leveling the blame for the James Eagan Holmes’ bloody shooting rampage on President Obama, Mitt Romney, Wayne LaPierre and the National Rifle Association:

Standing at Holmes’ side as he unleashed an AR-15 assault rifle and a shotgun and a handgun was Wayne LaPierre, political enforcer of the National Rifle Association. Standing at Holmes’ side as he sprayed bullets and buckshot into a crowded movie theater were Barack Obama and Mitt Romney, a President and a would-be President, who have bowed to the NRA’s dictates and who responded to the slaughter Friday with revolting, useless treacle.

Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) plans to “reintroduce legislation that would curtail the ability of a shooter to fire at length without reloading” following the shooting in Colorado on Friday, the Huffington Post’s Sam Stein reports.

I don’t quite know what to make of the finger-pointing, but one thing is sure, we cannot go on this way. Something has to be done. No civilians should be allowed to purchase so many rounds of ammunition, explosive materials and gear in such a short period of time with no questions asked. A red flag should have gone up, as Stephen Baldwin said, with the sheer magnitude of the equipment James Holmes purchased. It is a shame that Colorado gun control laws remain lax, even though there were some changes after the Columbine massacre.
