Although I broke with that nebulous thing called “the conservative movement” some time ago, that was due to policy disagreements and what I perceived to be no small amount of incoherent hatred in their ranks. This does not mean I do not respect some conservatives and in no way means I deny the existence of lefty/liberal hatred and grossly abusive behavior by some of them. For example, there’s really nothing acceptable about what John Hawkins describes here.
Politics is an ugly business. As usual, the only thing I continue to wonder is whether this is all new stuff, the “new normal,” or whether it’s just another iteration of the same old ugliness that’s always been part of politics.
