Every year the veterans group Rolling Thunder holds a special event in Washington DC. They ride from the Pentagon to the Vietnam War Memorial both to bring attention to POW/MIA issues and to pay honor to the fallen.
Since 1992 they have been joined by Staff Sergeant Tim Chambers. Every year Chambers stands along the route and salutes every single rider. That’s roughly four HOURS at attention. Try standing at attention and saluting for about 4 minutes to see how hard 4 hours would be.
When asked why he does it his humble response is:
“It’s about the pain.A lot of these heroic guys still hurt and if I can relieve their pain for just one brief moment, then I’ve done my job.”
He also adds that he hopes people will see it and emulate it any way they can across the country.
