If Republicans get their way

The Big Belch is a graphic novel about a greedy oil company that causes a terrible oil spill and conducts a reckless experiment in hopes of diverting public attention from the disaster they recently caused — and ends up very nearly destroying the world in the process. The Big Belch addresses (in a zany fun way) what might come about if the Republicans get their way in gutting environmental regulations.

This short video introduces the main characters of The Big Belch.

  1. “what might come about if the Republicans get their way in gutting environmental regulations”

The last time republicans had an advocate for the environment in any significant way was when my grandparents were kids. Here it is over a hundred years later and environmental issues are critcally important in a way few people of that time could have imagined. Also we have the benefit of research and knowledge that tells us what is happening and why. So what is their excuse for ignoring and even demonizing those who work for greater awareness and regulation when it comes to environmental concerns? Not only are they losing women and young people, they are losing anyone smart enough not to have his or her head stuck in the 19th century. Best of luck with the Big Belch!

  2. If republicans get their way its back to the same game plan we had in 2000-2008. Its just that simple. If anything, from what we’ve heard in the primary season, they will actually somehow manage to be LESS nuanced than the Bush administration. Say what you will about Obama, at least he has managed to be a net positive instead of a complete disaster.

  3. “It wasn’t that long ago Republicans advocated for the environment”

That was over 30 years ago. Lol. Or were you making a funny? I’m rushed at work today and my sarcasm meter doesn’t have time to take an accurate read.

  4. Slam, “Say what you will about Obama, at least he has managed to be a net positive instead of a complete disaster.”
    I agree.
Try your sarcasm meter on that.

  5. nO SARCASM. This liberal would vote for a Bill Miliken over a mediocre Democrat. But today’s Republicans have no Milliken’s. Milliken is still a registered Republican. He, like Collin Powell, supported Obama…

  6. Yeah Nixon is looking better all the time. Who would ever have guessed? That said (as slam mentioned) it was still a long time ago.

  7. There are any one of a number of issues that should scare Americans (who still know how to think) into not voting republican this time around. When they are combined it’s a no brainer.

  8. Duh, I hurt my knuckles cause they drag on the ground too much, but I are a Republikan.

  9. Sorry dd, that wasn’t a poke at you. I’m still holding out hope for a cure. ;-)

  10. No problem, I like jokes/pokes, but no smokes.

  11. I’m going for Rocky Anderson–at least he supports the things I support (and has a cool name). The cool name would be enough in this particular election season, unfortunately.
