If you’re interested, I’m live-blogging tonight’s results from Florida (just as I did for Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina) over at my place.
(And just for some fun I’ve got some Rush for you as well. “Big Money,” of course.)
We all knew who was going to win, and it may very well be that we’re witnessing the beginning of the end of this mostly embarrassing race for the Republican nomination for president. I just don’t see how Newt comes back from this, though I suppose the fact that the next couple of states hold caucuses (dominated by the hardcore party faithful) instead of primaries gives Newt and Rick something of a chance to make a dent in Romney’s lead.
Anyway, if we learned anything from Florida, it’s this: Money is power. And money wins. Sure, it was unlikely that Newt would be able to keep it up after South Carolina (he may have peaked there and didn’t seem to have a terribly high ceiling), but the combination of well-organized ground campaign, (anti-Newt) negative ad blitz and media saturation, and broad support from the GOP political and media establishment, gave Romney an in insurmountable edge.
And now it may well be over.
