Rep. Peter King’s congressional investigation into “[t]he extent of radicalization in the American Muslim community and that community’s response” began today with an opening statement by Rep. Keith Ellison (D=MN) the first Muslim American to serve in Congress. His statement speaks for itself.
After Ellison finished, Rep. Sheila King Lee requested that King allow all the committee members to make opening statements — given the significance of the premise behind these hearings (that all Muslim Americans are potentially terrorists until proven not to be) — and King refused. In fact, he barely allowed her to finish speaking.
The video of Ellison’s statement is at C-Span. The transcript is posted at Ellison’s website, in case anyone had trouble making out what he was saying because of how hard he was crying as he attempted to speak.
