Is this the final nail of the old confederacy ? We can hope so. Joe’s post covers it here but I would add some personal notes. My family on my fathers side has been in this country since well before the Revolutionary War. They were plantation owners in the south and held slaves. They fought valiantly for the Confederacy but I’m not proud of them. The slaves often took their masters names which is why there are more Beasleys of color than white ones today. I grew up and have lived in the Pacific Northwest most of my life and don’t remember the last time I saw a Confederate flag. That’s not to say we don’t have racial incidents here – we do but it’s becoming less common. At the same time I realize that I live in a largely white suburb and I am miles away from the from the black society and culture.
As for skin color anthropologists are not really certain if the Africans became black before or after the migration out of that Continent.. Did we turn white or did the Africans turn dark? The reality is we are all one species. It is hypothesized that the last blond haired blue eyed person like me will be born in Finland in a couple of generations thanks to to interbreeding. .
