With proposals for a Palin-Free-February gaining publicity if not traction, liberals can rest easy. Michele Bachmann is ready and waiting to fill the void should the pundits wish to give Mama Grizzly a respite.
In a January 5 article on a possible presidential bid, I gave Bachmann credit for being an excellent fundraiser. It was oversight not to mention her ability to draw attention to herself. Yesterday she hosted Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia at a meeting of the “Tea Party Congressional Caucus”. Tonight she will likely upstage her own party’s rebuttal to the President’s State of the Union Address if she follows through on plans to deliver her own Tea Party rebuttal.
To be clear, there’s no problem with a Supreme Court Justice being invited to address a congressional caucus. Liberals who believe otherwise should get over it. Then-Justice Thurgood Marshall addressed the Congressional Black Caucus. What’s good for the goose and all that.
The Tea Party rebuttal tonight should be mandatory viewing for the politically afflicted. According to Politico, Bachmann has released a proposed budget calling for $430 billion in spending cuts over five years as part of her Tea Party agenda. That’s about a third of the $2.5 trillion in cuts over ten years being proposed by the Republican Study Committee, a plan likely to be touted by Paul Ryan in the official Republican response.
With February just six days away, Michele Bachmann is positioning herself well to be the pundit’s stand-in for the woman she once supported for president…until she decided to look into running for president herself.
