Yesterday was the beginning day of the NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament, known as “March Madness.” There were some very good games on day 1. Some highlights include:
The Big East got taken down a few notches with (#3) Georgetown getting beaten by (#14) Ohio by double digits; (#6) Notre Dame falling to (#11) Old Dominion and (#6) Marquette falling to (#11) Washington.
The biggest almost shock, and in my opinion the biggest travesty of the day’s action, is the gift the officials gave to (#2) Villanova by giving the the victory over (#15) Robert Morris. Robert Morris lead throughout the game, and if not for some very questionable foul calls during the last two minutes of regulation (including an obvious jump ball non-call), the Colonials would be moving on and Villanova would be packing their bags to go back to Philly.
For all the hype of the Big East Conference being the strongest in the land, yesterday’s 1 win out of 4 game showing is proof that hype can not win games when it counts in the tournament, only poor officiating can do that…
