From time to time I like to toss in a non political post and offer some entertainment ideas for the readers of TMV.
For most US television viewers, Hugh Laurie is best known as Dr. House on the television series of the same name. But as many of you may know Laurie is actually English and his House character is done with an American accent.
Prior to House he had a successful career in both British and US film and also on British television. One of those performances was on a series based on the PG Wodehouse books about Jeeves and Wooster. For those not familiar with the books, the main character is Bertie Wooster (played by Laurie) who is a wealthy and somewhat vapid aristocrat of the 1920’s and 1930’s. His butler is Reginald Jeeves (played by Stephen Fry).
The general plot of each episode is Jeeves figuring out how to bail Wooster out of his latest problems, usually brought on by his general ignorance of how the real world works. Having grown up in great wealth, he’s never had to work or worry about money and just assumes that everything works the way he wants.
The comedy is uniquely British, but for me that is a real plus.
The series is available from Netflix (and probably Blockbuster but I’m not a member there) as well as from places like Amazon, etc.
I would urge anyone who is a fan of dry or witty humor to check this series out, I’ve just started season 3 which takes place in America and the mix of British aristocracy with 1920’s America.
Here is a sample of the humor (plenty of clips on You Tube too)
