Wednesday was President Barack Obama’s 49th birthday. CNN delivered the birthday equivalent of a sack of coal at Christmas, according to Politico:
On President Barack Obama’s birthday, a new CNN/Opinion Research released Wednesday shows 41 percent of Republicans believe Obama was “probably” or “definitely” born in another country.
Three-in-10 Americans think Obama was born in another country. They don’t trust that his Hawaii-issued birth certificate is real. (I wonder if this is the same 3-in-10 who think the sun revolves around the earth?)
I applaud appropriate skepticism of government acts. But this one defies common sense. Even if he had been born abroad, he would still be a “natural born” citizen* because his mother was a U.S. citizen.
Get over this red herring, folks, and focus your energy/outrage at something significant. You know, like two foreign wars. Or the farce that is the FCC. Or the farce that is the Department of Interior. Or the farce that is “Homeland Security.”
* The founders conveniently failed to define what they meant by natural born citizen. IANAL but my interpretation is supported by a host of legal minds.
