Joe Gandelman had a post today consisting of a single word, “Sigh,” appropriately linked.
The piece I read today in the Washington Times, really doesn’t deserve even a single word of commentary, but, hey, I am a sucker, so here are a few.
I remember during my military days — in the U.S. military, not the Soviet Army — that many of our instructions, motivational documents, or just articles and essays would start with the word “Forward,” sometimes as a twist on “Foreword” sometimes to convey the notion of moving forward, onward or toward an objective, or “onward so as to make progress” as my dictionary says.
I know other authors use the word for similar purposes.
But today I find out in the Washington Times that “Forward” is a word with a long and rich association with European Marxism.
That “Forward” reflects the conviction of European Marxists and radicals.
That “Forward” as used by the Obama administration in its new campaign slogan immediately makes conservative critics note the “numerous ties to radicalism and socialists throughout Mr. Obama’s history, from his first political campaign being launched from the living room of two former Weather Underground members, to appointing as green jobs czar Van Jones, a self-described communist.”
On second thought, I guess all my military contemporaries who along with me used the word “Forward” were in fact Marxists and radicals.
As Joe says, “Sigh…….”
