White House Goes to War

The knock on Barack Obama from the start was his unwillingness to go head to head–“mix it up a little,” as Maureen Dowd urged during the campaign. Now, after a Nobel Peace prize, he suddenly seems to be brawling with everybody, from the health insurance industry down to Fox News.

“They’re filling the airwaves with deceptive and dishonest ads,” he said this weekend in counterattacking the insurers. “They’re flooding Capitol Hill with lobbyists and campaign contributions. And they’re funding studies designed to mislead the American people.

“It’s smoke and mirrors. It’s bogus. And it’s all too familiar. Every time we get close to passing reform, the insurance companies produce these phony studies as a prescription and say, ‘Take one of these, and call us in a decade.'”

As the President takes off the gloves on health reform, his surrogates fan out to confront Rupert Murdoch’s cable minions. On ABC yesterday, David Axelrod defended Communications Director Anita Dunn’s offensive against Fox News.

“I understand that their programming is geared toward making money. The only argument Anita was making is that they’re not really a news station…it’s not just their commentators, but a lot of their news programming. It’s really not news–it’s pushing a point of view.”

Axelrod was backing up Dunn’s manifesto in a New York Times interview: “We’re going to treat them the way we would treat an opponent. As they are undertaking a war against Barack Obama and the White House, we don’t need to pretend that this is the way that legitimate news organizations behave.”

Obama straighten out and fly right. I didn’t vote for you but I would like you to succeed in some of your endeavors. Why? Simple, I live in this great country and want it to prosper, and me too. Strictly selfish, I admit. When Maureen Dowd has you in her sights, it’s a bad thing. And, just in the last few days, people that did support you are moaning in the NYT about your lack of focus. So don’t focus all over and do fewer things better.

  • Go forth and do! Unlike the Bush administration, where it was more common practice to talk the talk while failing to walk the walk… The current Obama administration is on target, on message, in focus, and moving the ball in the right direction.

The only basis for criticism for the Obama Paradigm is that progressive success and progressive momentum spells political disaster for conservative sponsored ideologies that have proven to be academic and functional failures.

The only basis for the organized campaign of hatred, contempt, and obstructionism being levered against Obama Hope is the fear of a multi-decade Democratic Dynasty.

The political war being waged inside the beltway by “elected” (read: bribed) operatives and corporate political puppets is all about anything and everything except the best interest of the electorate. We are closer to a fascist republic today than we are a democratic republic.

The sabre-rattling from the White House is well justified. The sheep can bleet all they like… they are ignorant. We finally have a philosopher-king in the true Platonian sense. Rejoice and witness hope and change.

You forgot the walking on water part.

“we don’t need to pretend that this is the way that legitimate news organizations behave”

I.e., they aren’t wearing their Obama presidential knee pads.

Meanwhile, the liberal rest-of-the-media is getting nervous, because they know the First Amendment is under assault, as well as that what’s being sought is control over the media, probably beyond merely the staging and managing of press conferences and other manipulations o f public opinion it does now.

Fox is merely first. (Just as only open dissenters at Town Halls were the first targets of Commie-style finger-pointing denunciation solicitations, earlier.) The others are getting nervous, because they’re next.

Besides, everyone knows that ObamaCo and their inept elitists and the lib Dems in Congress have nobody to blame but themselves for their health care overreach and failure, and attacking others only succeeds in distraction and support-building among the low end of the IQ bell curve, and they want Dem health reform, and loathe the private sector and Fox, already, anyway.
