US Advances To Next Round Of World Cup

The United States will advance to the “knockout round” (final 16) of the World Cup.

Few commentators expected this before the games began as the US was in what many called the “group of death”.

Odds are that the US will play Belgium and while I am no expert most of those who are suggest that we have a very good chance of beating them, though that does not make it certain.

Even though the US lost to Germany, the US will advance.

The United States lost to Germany in rainy Recife but advanced to the World Cup’s knockout phase anyway.

Thomas Müller’s goal in the 55th minute gave the Germans a 1-0 victory, but that result, coupled with Portugal’s 2-1 win over Ghana, left the Americans in second place with a 1-1-1 record in Group G, the so-called Group of Death. That is good enough for Team USA to qualify for the round of 16, where they will probably meet Belgium.

Even though the U.S. lost to tough Germany 1-0, it was a good match.

Lucky for the U.S., the other match that was playing simultaneously, Portugal against Ghana, ended in a 2-1 win for Portugal allowing the U.S. to go forward, despite the loss against Germany.

However, from now on, USA will have to win its matches.

Good luck USA, you have done well so far.

  • If you watch pre and post game interviews it is clear how physically demanding the sport is. Futbol players use their heads (a lot) and so many of the players have black eyes from butting heads and draining blood, butterfly stitches and some broken noses. I don’t know the number of concussions. I do know the number of bite marks (one). How many starting lineups in the NFL, NBA and MLB have black eyes? You would expect Dempsey to play with a face guard. No.

I could do without the histrionics and flops; but this is a seriously physical sport.

Oh my!…. Y’all are showing signs of the nation’s moral decay…

But enough is enough. Any growing interest in soccer can only be a sign of the nation’s moral decay.

We were extremely fortunate to get out of there with a 0-1 loss. Germany completely dominated the game and was content with the small win once they saw the US back off after the first score. That could have easily been a 0-4 loss. Luckily, I dont think anyone wanted to see Ghana advance after the whole 3million payment or boycott fiasco.
