What a game! In arguably the greatest upset for USA men’s ice hockey since the Miracle On Ice in 1980 the unusually young and inexperienced USA team defeated star-studded Team Canada in Vancouver. This is the first time Team USA defeated Team Canada since 1960 at Squaw Valley.
This game was an absolute gem to watch. Lots of end-to-end action. The Americans moved so well without the puck – ready for rebounds and outlet passes. Ryan Miller played the game of his life in goal. Brian Rifalski nearly got a hat trick.
This is merely the preliminary round and Team USA and Team Canada may face each other again in the medal round. But the Americans are now guaranteed either the #1 or #2 seed into the next round (pending Sweden-Finland).
All I can say overall is: this is the best Winter Olympics for Team USA ever. The ski team has been top notch, netting medals in both traditional and newer snow events. Our speed skaters have been strong – if not all gold then at least medaling. If only the curlers could pick up their game…
