CORRECTION

Yesterday we ran THIS LINK from Thomas P.B. Barnett’s weblog. A reader spotted an error (that came about when we posted that link rather quickly):

Your link to Barnett implied that he was “on the Right.” I apologize for not explaining the full significance of his post. Barnett has some unique ideas about national security, but he’s very much a centrist politically. In fact, he’s a confirmed Democrat: he consulted for the Kerry campaing in ’04; he says some not-very-nice things about “neo-cons;” and in the post you linked, he refers to the Democrats as “my side.”

“I swore I’d never see that sort of dogmatic nonsense on my side like I saw it emerge–almost insanely–on the Right during the Clinton years (what I assumed would be the never-again-scaled heights of sputtering irrational rage), but I was wrong.”

We should have caught that, but didn’t. We regret the error.

Kos and the Kossacks don’t like Tauscher because she isn’t liberal enough for their taste and because she hurt the party by becoming too close with the republicans (note: ‘Täuscher’ is german for ‘deceiver’). Parts of the GOP have attacked republican politicians in the past, too, for allegedly being too liberal (think of Linc Chaffee). That’s just part of normal party infighting. Big deal. Barnett is simply whining that there’s a new big player in town. It’s about time beltway pundits like Barnett face the reality that the blogosphere is at their heels, and rightly so. At least bloggers fight in the open, and not behind the scenes like those elitist ‘insider’ posses of the past.

I agree- it is party infighting. The GOP is notorious for this—look at the recent publicity about Hugh Hewitt and the Victory Caucus, who are targeting the 17 Republicans who voted for Pelosi’s surge disapproval resolution in the House. They also have Club for Growth which has successfully run conservative candidates against moderate GOP incumbents. “Take her out” means run a more liberal candidate against her, not rub her out with mafioso, lol.
