A lot of the political discourse and speculation in the 2012 election season is about the women’s vote. There seem to be a lot of questions about why women tend to favor the Democratic Party over the Republican Party by large margins.

I’ll give you a clue. Women are humans and have the same penchant for genius and foibles that male humans have. Unfortunately they also still suffer from discrimination – and yes even sometimes from their own gender. Remember the foibles part I mentioned.

They also have some unique burdens in bearing and being largely held responsible for the care of the children our species needs to survive, than men do. This part seems to really freak out some men, particularly right wing religiously fundamentalist men. Men who the Republican Party has welcomed with open arms.

Maybe they’re jealous of women? Don’t know. In any case they seem to feel it is their right and duty to control women’s bodies and what women choose to do with them at the same time as they loudly proclaim freedom and liberty for all. Guess they have selective perception when they’re talking about ‘all,’ hmmm.

So is it any wonder that Democrats who generally at least say that women should be in charge of their own bodies and lives would be more popular with women? Maybe those pundits and politicians who just don’t seem to understand this trend should get a clue.
