The image above is piece I paid big bucks for at an auction for cancer survivors when my daughter was in stage four of alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma. Lance Armstrong was an inspiration to my family as a survivor. He won seven times at the Tour de France. But his career was plagued by accusations of cheating and criminal activity. He was never caught with a drug test but enough people came forward that he left sport disgraced on Opra. The image now sits behind my water heater in my garage.
A few years ago a very good friend and his wife visited my house. He is a natural body builder and of the highest integrity. We went into my garage to do some chiropractic work on a table of mine. Immediately his eye went straight to this almost hidden image behind garage plumbing and he said “I hate Lance Armstrong. He is a cheater”. I had great pictures all over the walls of others, some signed, but his eyes and his comment went to this one. Once considered the greatest cyclist of all time Armstrong is now considered disgraced by everyone but the most blind fans. I agreed with my friend who I have the deepest respect for and felt a twinge of guilt for owning it (hidden or not).
Barry Bonds won seven MVP awards in baseball and has more home runs than anyone else, ever. Once considered the greatest baseball player of all time he now lives with a different legacy. He never tested positive for drugs but enough people came forward to tell story that he was assumed a cheater.
Same for Roger Clemens. The greatest pitcher ever, Roger considered by many to have doped. He won seven Cy Young awards and played 24 years. Jose Canseco claimed to have administered HGH to Roger’s wife. But Clemens never tested positive. Only the most closed minded believe he and Barry and Lance were clean.
They each over came huge odds to be the best. Cancer, father’s cancer and death, health issues and calls for their resignation over twenty years. Only the blind stay loyal and the blind lose honor. It doesn’t matter if you love the SF Giants, the USA in the Tour or the fact somebody over came cancer. It doesn’t matter that Roger Clemens played for your beloved NY Yankees.
That brings me to Hillary Clinton. It doesn’t matter that she is part of a beloved Party. Or that she wasn’t convicted of crime over the last twenty five years. EDIT: For me, the only way I could vote for her was if I had no other choice. I understand that many feel they are already in that position.
