While the topic of marriage equality has dominated the media the last few days the issue of DADT remains important and I came across some comments that I thought worth sharing
“Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution is pretty simple. It says, ‘Raise an army.’ It says absolutely nothing about race, color, creed, sexual orientation.”
How dare we, then, exclude a group of people who want to do the same thing you do right now, something that is honorable and noble?”
Now I think these words pretty darn eloquent but what is even more important is the source.
Often those who oppose lifting DADT discuss how the troops don’t want it, how it’s just the politicians who support it, etc.
They say that to get a real view you need to talk to the troops themselves.
Well how does the Command Sergeant Major of The United States Marine Corps strike you ?
Because those words are direct quotes from his comments on the lifting of DADT.
As he put it
“Get over it. We’re magnificent, we’re going to continue to be. … Let’s just move on, treat everybody with firmness, fairness, dignity, compassion and respect. Let’s be Marines.”
I say OOO RAH !
