The Fully Vetted Sarah Palin
UPDATED (Yet Again!) Keep in mind, before we wind up the Friday night activities in Blogistan, that this is still only ten hours after the announcement of Sarah Palin as John McCain's VP announcement caught so many of us flat-footed. In ten hours, though, the hits keep on coming. Let's take a quick look at a few more. UPDATE: Please see Update #3 below regarding the first … [Read more...] about The Fully Vetted Sarah Palin
Conservative Pioneer Viguerie: Palin Is Perfect Vice Presidential Pick
Conservative pioneer Richard Viguerie just sent out this email-press release praising GOP Presidential nominee-to-be Sen. John McCain's selection of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin for Vice President as "perfect." Here it is in full: Richard Viguerie: She’s perfect With VP pick, McCain “unites the GOP, gives conservatives a stake in the election, and puts a real reformer on the … [Read more...] about Conservative Pioneer Viguerie: Palin Is Perfect Vice Presidential Pick
Palin: An Inspired Choice for McCain Running Mate
Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has been on my radar screen since she won election in 2006. So, while her selection by Senator John McCain to be his running mate surprised me, I think it was also an inspired choice. Why? The woman appears to have guts and integrity, both rare assets in Alaska's oil-saturated politics of corruption. If you watched a recent profile of Alaskan … [Read more...] about Palin: An Inspired Choice for McCain Running Mate
Al Gore’s Regrets
To warm up the crowd for Barack Obama last night, Al Gore did something he has resisted for eight years, replay the 2000 election and express bitter regret over what might have been. "Take it from me," he told Democrats, "if it had ended differently, we would not be bogged down in Iraq; we would have pursued bin Laden until we captured him. "We would not be facing a … [Read more...] about Al Gore’s Regrets
Palin on “Troopergate” and Abortion
We're not even eight hours into the era of the McCain - Palin ticket, but I am quickly becoming more and more convinced that John McCain had previously decided upon T-Paw or Romney but hit the panic button and selected Sarah Palin after Obama's Mile High Stadium speech without full vetting. Two items have already jumped to the front page. The first, of course, is what is … [Read more...] about Palin on “Troopergate” and Abortion

Palin’s interesting but…
The pick of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin by John McCain to be his running mate neither wowed nor depressed me. From what I've read about Gov. Palin and some of the videos I've seen she's intelligent, speaks convincingly, and is a pure conservative. As expected, some on the Right say this will pull disenchanted Clinton supporters (I really don't think so) and the Left is in … [Read more...] about Palin’s interesting but…
Reflections on the Palin Pick
Unconventional, and surprising. As I wrote recently, I think this a year (and perhaps an age) for big-name, national-celebrity politics. Look at who ran for both parties in the primaries. For the most part they were all big names: Hillary, Obama, Edwards, Biden, Richardson, McCain, Giuliani, Romney, Thompson, etc...Huckabee and perhaps Dodd were the major exceptions. Which … [Read more...] about Reflections on the Palin Pick
Panel Discussion on Obama’s Speech and the Palin Pick
For those of you who didn't catch the show, we had a great panel discussion today on the radio. In the first half we discussed the Obama speech from last night and, in the second half, we covered the Palin nomination. Cindy and I were joined by my producer / wife / boss Georg, (a hard core liberal, feminist Democrat) along with our Editor-in-Chief here at TMV, Joe Gandelman. We … [Read more...] about Panel Discussion on Obama’s Speech and the Palin Pick
‘Obama-Biden vs. Osama bin Laden’: El Tiempo of Colombia
Here's an interesting if unsettling question: Which U.S. presidential candidate would Osama bin Laden prefer - and what might he do about it? For Colombia's El Tiempo newspaper, Isaac Bigio writes in part: "Osama bin Laden has never lived in the Americas, but thanks to the slaughter he directed on September 11, 2001, he became the most important U.S. elector by triggering … [Read more...] about ‘Obama-Biden vs. Osama bin Laden’: El Tiempo of Colombia
Obama’s Speech: “Now Is the Time”
McCain's done a good job of deflecting attention from Obama's speech by his birthday VP pick. It's hard to focus on writing about Obama while giggling incredulously. And---though many are puzzled, a few are happy. Indeed, Jonah Goldberg over at The Corner is so excited he is " having some flop sweats at the idea it's actually happening." Okay: ew. But though I must … [Read more...] about Obama’s Speech: “Now Is the Time”
Russia Looks East for Support; Finds Little Encouragement
Russia turned to its fellow members in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (formed to build relations between China and former Soviet republics) for backing in its actions against Georgia and specifically in its recognition of the separatist regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. The member states of the SCO are Russia, China, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. … [Read more...] about Russia Looks East for Support; Finds Little Encouragement
Watching Palin’s Speech
So far, this is not going well. She looks star-struck up there. My girlfriend says she's rambling. I think she sounds hokey (sometimes that's a good thing, but I don't think here). Her diction is not strong -- she sounds halting to me. And it's thematically disjointed. First impressions are crucial for such an unknown quantity, and right now Palin is not delivering. Also … [Read more...] about Watching Palin’s Speech
Back on the Radio! Palinpalooza!
We don't normally do this on Fridays, but given the flurry of activity surrounding Barack Obama's speech last night and John McCain's pick of Sarah Palin this morning, it's simply too much to pass up. You can join us today on Mid Stream Radio at 1 pm Eastern, 10 am Pacific, and we'll try to make sense of it all. I've invited a number of pundits to join us, so we'll see who … [Read more...] about Back on the Radio! Palinpalooza!
So it will be McCain – Palin 2008 for the GOP
Let's get right to a round-up of blogger and pundit reactions to the selection of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as John McCain's vice presidential pick. (Which now seems to be a done deal.) But first I'll offer a few "shoot from the hip" observations. While I may have been left scratching my head over Obama's selection of Joe Biden, I'm knocked to the floor by this one. First and … [Read more...] about So it will be McCain – Palin 2008 for the GOP
Palin’s the Ticket
So CNN reports. It's an intriguing choice and, I think, a dangerous one, for both the Democratic and the GOP tickets. What do I mean by that? Simple: Palin is a risky choice for McCain. It could turn out really well, or it could turn out really badly. The breakdown on Palin shows someone who has the potential to really create movement for McCain, but whose main benefits are … [Read more...] about Palin’s the Ticket
McCain’s Desperation VP Pick
CNN confirms this morning that John McCain has selected Alaska GOP Governor Sarah Palin to be his VP pick. According to many who know her she has a "dynamic personality" and came into office in 2006 with a pledge to reform Alaska's notoriously corrupt government. As a woman candidate, she will undoubtedly draw much attention as this is only the second time in history that … [Read more...] about McCain’s Desperation VP Pick
