I have been writing about the pending decision by the Obama administration on whether to permit media access to our returning fallen heroes when they touch American soil at Dover Air Force Base, Delaware.
At the White House daily press briefing, Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, had this to say about that just a few minutes ago [I hope I copied it all correctly]:
The Secretary of Defense will talk fairly shortly [about this] at the Pentagon.
The President has asked the Secretary of Defense to review our policy towards media access and photos at Dover Air Base for victims returning from Iraq and Afghanistan..
What the Secretary’s come back with and what the President supports is a policy consistent with what we have at Arlington Cemetery which allows at the family’s permission for that to be open. which allows them to make that decision and protect their privacy if that’s what they wish to do.
The President is supportive of the Secretary’s decision.
This sounds quite a bit like the compromise most Americans have been hoping for.
