Most of us will eventually confront the fact that someday we are going to die. But few of us have to do so at such a young age and even fewer will do so with the dignity and grace of 11 year old Brenden Foster.
When he was eight years old Brenden was diagnosed with leukemia and was told his prognosis for long term survival was not good. Earlier this year he was told that the cancer was taking over and that he was not going to survive. This past Friday November 21st Brenden died.
Like many sick and dying children he was given the option of asking for something, making a wish. Most children in that situation have asked to meet someone they admire or to travel to some exotic place. I don’t blame them a bit for making such a wish, in the same situation I might do the same.
Which is what makes Brenden’s wish even more special.
He asked to feed the hungry and the homeless.
His wish has spread all over the country and is being credited with helping to fill empty food banks all over.
Sadly I did not catch this story in time to post it for TMV readers to help out this Thanksgiving, but perhaps that is a good thing. The hungry are around all of the time and they always need help, so why don’t we carry on this noble wish through the holiday season and beyond.
Do a little something for Brenden.
