The op-ed by interim DNC chair Donna Brazile in last week’s USA Today is high on something and loose on facts. Brazile’s close attachment to her nominee, Hilary Clinton, is well known from her time as Clinton staff member and surrogate spokesperson on CNN during the primary season. As a matter of public interest, here are the facts which Brazile either omits or conveniently forgets:
Bill Clinton and Al Gore used the Confederate flag as one of their logos. Hilary Clinton’s claim of Trump’s connection to the Alt-Right rings hollow when her husband’s campaign used racist imagery to win the White House. If the Bush’s or Donald Trump would have done that, they would eternally be viewed as racist.
On the matter of HBCUs, changes in the implementation of PLUS loans caused many HBCUs to face severe budget cuts because students were not able to pay for their tuition. Add this to the changes in Pell Grant funding, HBCUs lost over $300 million in funding in just two years from 2011-2013.
In the words of President James Garfield, “The truth will set you free, but first it will make you miserable.” In this election, Donald Trump is the light of truth. Sometimes truth hurts, and sometimes it’s uncomfortable, but it still is truth. The African-American community has had a relationship with the Clintons and their brand of the Democratic Party for 24 years and it has been an unmitigated disaster – less income, less freedom and violent deaths of thousands of young black lives in urban areas EVERY SINGLE YEAR.
The facts clearly show that it was the Democratic Party which fought against Civil Rights, founded the KKK and today, supports Planned Parenthood which 80% of their abortions are Black and Hispanic babies.
Donna Brazile hopes her “delusion” to our community will deliver another overwhelming electoral outcome for the Clintons in November. I implore my fellow African Americans to look closely at which party has taken you for granted.
