For those already conversant in Spanish or those just wanting to improve their Spanish, the New York Times has just inaugurated a website that “ofrece lo mejor de nuestro periodismo a lectores en América Latina y el resto del mundo,” or, which offers the best of the Times journalism to readers in Latin America and the rest of the world.
Today’s edition includes interesting and timely articles — both translated and original — on the Zika virus in Brazil; on how the journey to the United States by Central-American migrants is becoming more treacherous; on the consequences of a stronger dollar on the global economy; on how the opposition in Venezuela is taking a page from Chávez’ political handbook y más.

The New York Times en Español also promises to become a reader’s guide to the U.S. elections (“which can confuse anyone”) such as this piece explaining the Iowa caucuses.
The Times Spanish-language site will be run out of Mexico City and will curate and translate 10 to 15 Times news and opinion articles each day, but also feature original Spanish-language reporting, says NiemanLab.org and adds, “The site is one of the latest steps in a larger effort from the paper to grow its international audience.”
