On December 31st I posted some specific thoughts on how you might lift your nutritional excellence in 2015.

Time passes quickly. That was six weeks ago; long enough that if you have initiated some or all of the suggestions you may have felt or seen some results. I know one reader has because I put my eyeballs on him during a recent visit.
As well, the post was as much for me as readers. I took my own advice and have been meticulous about sourcing my food and drink. I can see results in the mirror, feel the increased energy and am enjoying the sense of peace and well-being.
Two days ago I had a blood draw and urine test to find out what was going on inside.
All was good except some numbers that begged answers about my kidney function. My test results were sent to a triathlete pally who is also a physician that specializes in kidney function at Mayo Clinic. Along with data I sent a question and my recent history. In my history you will recognize the tips I shared from the article six weeks ago (!)

My Question:
Are the kidney function tests abnormal for someone my age without other morbidity issues?
My History:
The blood and urine tests were done after 17hrs fasting (7pm to 12pm) and exercise that ended at 10am.
As well, after 5am leading up to the blood draw and urine sample I had about 60-80ozs of water with a squeeze of lemon and branch chain amino acids.
As well, at 5am a keto coffe // black + 200cal or two Tablespoons of butter and 100cal or one Tablespoon of coconut oil. Nothing after 6am.
For a little over two months my normal daily nutrition plan includes 16hrs fasting 7pm to 11am, exercise each morning. Then eating 3-4x up until 7pm as 75-80% good fats (zero trans-fat or hydrogenated oils) // 10-15% protein // 5% carbohydrate; all whole foods. No sports product. No sugar. No alcohol.
The high quality fat plan is a bit of a diuretic, so I drink about a gallon or 128 ounces of water and herbal tea each day. No other liquid of any type. I also supplement daily electrolytes (1000mg sodium // 63g potassium) and sometimes a bouillon cube as well (1000mg sodium).
So the reader can see I took my advice.
It’s never too late!
You can still apply these simple (but not easy) tips.
Six weeks from now will be 12 weeks into 2015 (!)

So the pay-off: what did my friend the kidney specialist from the Mayo Clinic think?
From Dr. Bob:
Kev-
These are entirely normal and laudable.
It is normal for the creatinine to vacillate a bit , and unfortunately the precision of this test is such that a variation of up to 0.2 can be ” normal”.
Additionally the glomerular filtration rate calculations are notorious for Iow accuracy among “outliers”. The physical exertion you take as usual and customary qualifies you as an outlier in the parlance of US or global epidemiology studies upon which the GFR formulas are based.
The urine results are objective evidence of normal renal function.
Your diet and habits are perfect and a model for longevity.
Awesome-
Warmest
