Let me try to start out positive, because as a conservative, that’s hard to do watching the Democrat’s Convention. First and foremost, Tammy Duckworth, triple-amputated vet and Black Hawk pilot, was amazing, and her speech was great. First Lady Michelle Obama’s speech was the best of the night. It gave warmth, and hit the right notes. But who was she kidding with saying “‘I love that we can trust Barack to do what he says he’s going do, even when it’s hard – especially when it’s hard.” You mean like cut the deficit in half? Close Gitmo? Get rid of the Patriot Act? Transparent government? Those hard things he said he was going to do? She also said, “Being president doesn’t change who you are, it reveals who you are.” We couldn’t agree more.
Now, let’s back track. Seriously. What are the Democrat’s thinking? First they take out any reference to God in their platform, then they stick it to Israel by dumping any mention of Jerusalem, and then worst of all, starting the whole convention with “Government is the only thing we all belong to???” I don’t know about you, but I don’t “belong” to any government. We are a government BY the people, not owned by it. Also sickening to me was the endless praising of abortion throughout the night. Of course, Democrats praise abortion, but they never actually use the word, “abortion.” No, it’s “healthcare” or “reproductive choices,” but never what it actually is called. I wonder if they were forced to say, “destroying an unborn child” every time, they might not have praised it quite as much. It’s clear our side is pro life, and their side is pro choice, but right now, that isn’t what the American people are concerned with. They are concerned with jobs, and that was hardly mentioned at all. Spending problems? What spending problems? It’s a crazy world we live in when Democrats imagine that reducing spending to 2008 levels is somehow heartless and tragic.
Almost as sickening? The tribute to Ted Kennedy. Here we have a man who used women his entire life (until he got too old to), was responsible for the death of a woman, with his name and money getting him out of it, and HE is the man they pay tribute to? THIS is the party for women??? One can hardly wait for the man to speak who is the most popular Democrat; Bill Clinton, who, while he was President, lied to the American people to our face, and cheated on and humiliated his wife and child by having an affair in the oval office with a young intern. Talk about a war on women. Who are they paying tribute to next? John Edwards?
Ok, I’ll try one more positive thing. Julián Castro, mayor of San Antonio, did fairly well as an effective keynoter. He was all about opportunity, and how it is possible here, much like Marco Rubio’s speech at the RNC. He was a very impressive speaker.
So, finally, for someone who believes deeply in limited government, the sanctity of life, the free market, and less government dependency by the people, not to mention fearing spending ourselves into bankruptcy, it was a very very depressing night.
I realize that Democrats watching the RNC may have felt as I did tonight. I feel for them, if they did. There is no doubt that there is little common ground here, and that’s really too bad.
With Obama it’s 2008 all over again. You don’t believe me? Listen to Obama yourself.
