In several posts and comments here at TMV, across a variety of related subjects, I’ve recommended Andrew Sullivan’s The Conservative Soul (TCS).
In response, a number of readers have indicated that they’re curious about what Sullivan has to say, but they either (a) haven’t yet gotten around to reading TCS or (b) are hesitant to pick up a copy because they fear it will be more of the same trite political analysis to which we are (all) too often subjected.
I’ll confess to writing some things that could be labeled “trite,” but Sullivan is who he is because he consistently and masterfully avoids the same trap. And that’s why I’m comfortable suggesting that — whether you ultimately agree with him or not, whether you’re a pure or blended centrist, a traditional conservative or neocon, a classical liberal or progressive — you won’t be disappointed by TCS. I’d even dare to say it’s one of the most important socio-political treatise of our time.
For those interested in more, my complete review — and a link to an earlier Glenn Greenwald review — of TCS are available at Central Sanity.
