Ahmadinejad May Be Heading for His First Major Political Defeat

This article reads like a play by play of our midterm elections. From Arab News: Ahmadinejad May Be Heading for His First Major Political Defeat

While trying to project his image as a world leader offering an alternative to “American hegemony”, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of the Islamic Republic of Iran may be heading for his first major political defeat at home. In fact, some analysts in Tehran expect his defeat to be so decisive as to puncture the super-inflated image created by his friends and foes, albeit for different reasons.

It is in the context of two sets of elections, to be held on Dec. 15, that Ahmadinejad’s defeat is expected to materialize.

From Dr. Thomas Barnett:

I think we’re not anticipating success effectively enough with Iran. We may be under the delusion that our hard stance is holding sway, but it’s really the Iranian people themselves delivering the change, thus they remain the essential target of the soft-kill strategy (which works already far more than we realize, so cut-off from Iran are we!).

I’m not impressed. I believe that if the Iranian theocracy wants him out, he’s out. If not, he won’t be out.

I mean, the students are calling him a “dictator”. Rather out of context considering whom his master is. What, these students are stupid? No, its just a set-up for western media consumption. Ahmadinejad is simply taking a fall, or, the media scenario is just to support the Iranian claim of democracy.

Of course you know the gasbag press (Faux and friends) will claim Bush’s rehtoric did it when it happens.

Hahahaha….Then lets just give it to him. One little victory among the mega-mistakes and screw-ups. Let him run to the Whitehouse roof and crow all he likes about it. We can smile and clap. The fresh air will do him good. Maybe even awaken a brain cell or two.

  4. Jim S says:

Who cares what the opinion polls say? The election is meaningless in Iran no matter what the article says any election in Iran would be easily rigged to reflect whatever the ruling Mullahs want.

  5. Paul in Austin says:

It is true that the elections are largely controlled by the “Supreme Guide”. So if Ahmadinejad has a set back that may be a signal from Iran’s leaders that he is pushing too hard.

  6. Rudi says:

But the neocons want US to believe Wackjob and Iran is the next Hitler, while they create grams of LEU. Painting an enemy or advisary as ultimately evil is just plain stupid rhetoric, good for cable soundbites but empty of any meaningfull analysis.
