Lesson 1. Know how to present yourself. Sound knowledgable, likable and humorous while you’re, in fact, working very hard at destroying all existing opposition.
It’s hard to know what the US relationship should be to Russia. I certainly have never seen Putin as trustworthy and whenever there was been a warming of US/Russian relations I’ve hoped that it was along the lines of Michael Corleone’s keeping your friends close and your enemies closer. Unfortunately I think that we’re destined for a showdown with Russia some time in the near future.
Oh no, the Godless Soviets are making a comeback. Let me know when the Russian leaders don’t have any ties to the KGB or the Old USSR. Maybe the “Ugly Americans” or the “God Bless America” crowd want a buffon like Yeltsin. Iran and the Russians are the new face of OPEC, don’t buy or drive your Hummer in the subburbs.
There are a lot of people in America and Europe who are weary Russia because they have rebounded pretty quickly and have become a little too powerful too soon. Also, there are many people in America who are upset because the president of Russia isn’t a coward like Yeltsin, but Putin who sticks up for his country and does what is in their best interests (gasp).
MvdG. Have you read Hedrick Smith’s “The Russians”. It’s more than a little dated now, but discusses the history of autocracy in Russia in some detail – the key point being that his popularity numbers aren’t surprising …
Poor Ruskies…they’ve dealt w/ totalitarianism for centuries. I wonder if they know any other way of life. :-/
No they don’t. Russias biggest rulers also happen to be massmurderers.

putin and Russia are still very much a force for evil in the world. After all, they are helping Iran to acquire nuclear weapons.

Oh, no! Is there room on the Axis for another enemy??? I’ve been thinking–Syria and Somalia are good candidates too!
Cold War redux from the far right cheap seats LMAO.
