In Colorado the Dems regained the House and Senate and made a real effort to reduce some of the partisanship. They knew what it was like to be on the receiving end of a partisan fueled legislature and did not seek to emulate it on their watch. That effort is paying big dividends now as it look like the Governorship will go their way. The Democrats have shown themselves to be serious about governing and that has gone a long way in letting people feel safe in electing a Democratic governor. I don’t think the horror stories will play out, in fact if they don’t act in a partisan way that will be yet another example of Republican fear mongering gone wrong. Either that or the gates of hell will open up and we will all be devoured so it won’t make a difference anyway.

Gee 2 years with the Nazi appeasers at the helm? Lets just say, I’ve replenished my supply of bottled water and duct tape, LOL!

  3. grognard says:

Kim, it was horrible beyond belief. When some of the partisan attacks got out of hand some of the newly elected Democrats and Republicans actually talked to each other about calming things down! The Horror! They actually spoke words to each other! Real conversation not just “you’re an idiot“.

  4. Kim Ritter says:

Well, grognard, we can’t have any of that! What would the “values voters think” if Rick Santorum were to have a beer with Ted Kennedy??? Oh,the saint that he is-probably would have holy water!

  5. SnarkyShark says:

And I’ll content myself with briefly noting that Democrats have been in charge for much of this century and the country is still standing, still a superpower, still the biggest economy on earth, and best I can recall we haven’t been invaded and conquered during that time.

Thats why for one I cant understand all this hate and fear that righties have of the Democrats. Its just not realistic. You would have to go out of your way to buy into the wolf tickets that have been sold in regard to the Democrats.

In the deepest darkest part of my Republican period, I never thought that a Democrat getting elected would be the end of the world.

And yet I see a lot of people, some of them on this board, who seem to think precisely that

The years of conditioning that that must have taken to get to that point.

The sheer ability to ignore history that must still take to keep on believing.

  6. Tommy says:

It will at least mean a reduction in claims of racist “jungle drums” (you know, those timpani drums from deepest, darkest Africa) in political advertisements for two years. I’m looking forward to that. ;-)

Frankly, I can’t wait to get this election over no matter how it turns out. I’m tired of all the election season crap already.

I do fear for this country’s future, however. Not because of Iraq and the GWoT, but because of immigration legislation.

  7. Blue Dog Democrats are going to have a strong voice in the Democratic majority as their numbers are likely to grow with the election of more moderate to conservative Democrats. I think that the Blue Dog Coalition will serve as an influence to keep Congressional Democrats from going too far out of the mainstream.

Amen Tommy. I’ve had no less than half a dozen calls this week wanting to poll me or asking for my vote. I’m getting sick of it.

  9. Kim Ritter says:

Uh-just what is a Blue Dog Democrat??

BTW, Snarky, I agree- some of our best leaders of the 20th century were Democrats—FDR, Truman, JFK, Clinton. The Clinton years were paradise compared to the condition the country is in now-I can’t believe so much harm could be done in just 6 years.

  10. C Stanley says:

    Kim,
I think Wiki has an article on the Blue Dog Democrats. They’re a group of moderates in the Democratic party, and some of their ringleaders are from LA (Billy Tauzin was one, I forget who else). The name comes from a popular LA artist Rodrigue, who paints, what else, blue dogs.

  11. Kim Ritter says:

Thanks, CS- I was too lazy to surf over to Wiki, LOL!

You and I don’t agree on many things, Tommy, but I’ll agree with you 100% on that.

I do fear for this country’s future, however. Not because of Iraq and the GWoT, but because of immigration legislation.

I’m not sure who we should vote for, then. Republicans and Democrats both want these “guest worker” and “earned citizenship” provisions. Remember, it’s Bush’s idea and the Republican Senate passed the bill that included those provisions. If you don’t like the “guest worker” and “earned citizenship” provisions, I’m not sure who you vote for. The leadership of both parties seem to favor those provisions.

  13. Ryan says:

Actually, I intended to quote this from Tommy when stating I agree 100%, my mistake:

Frankly, I can’t wait to get this election over no matter how it turns out. I’m tired of all the election season crap already.
