She scares me…

    “She scares me…”

What in that article was scary to someone that doesn’t even live here?

Pre-programmed dislike shows bias. Pre-programmed dislike without reason, well that just “on message” from what I can see.

  2. Pyst: life must be hard not being able to laugh at anything (except for jokes about Bush et alia of course).

Oh no. A San Francisco Liberal&#174. Just as bad as a Massachusetts Liberal&#174. The problem with these Commie-Pinko Liberals&#174 is that they just want to Cut and Run&#174. Don’t they understand that 9/11 Changed Everything&#174 and that it is Better to Fight Them in Baghdad Than Boise&#174 and that Freedom Is On The March&#174? What Defeatocrats&#174!
    ;)

  4. Ack: exactly. Scary stuff!

    “She scares me.”

    Heh.

    Scared of a girl, Michael?

Or are you just parroting the Rush Limbaugh/Sean Hannity talking point?

Whichever is the answer, I don’t think you realize just how funny you are!

PS–If you’ve got an actual serious argument about why she’s so doggone scary, bring it on. If not?

    Heh!

Enforcing party discipline is something she learned from the Republicans. But this is a double edged sword in that unified the Democrats can get some legislation passed, but it can also be used to stifle dissent. How she handles the Republicans will be the test, if they an bring legislation to the floor and have some influence in the debate on the majority side then she will look good and disprove the fears of the conservatives on a “liberal take over. If she uses the position to viciously attack the Democrats will blow it with the independents and give the impression that they are not the party to govern responsibly. In Colorado we had a Democratic takeover of the House and Senate, after many years of being the mistreated minority the fear was that they would go after the Republicans and treat them with the same contempt the Democrats had felt all of those years. That did not happen, the newly elected Democrats made a real effort to minimize the partisanship of the previous years and did a commendable job of working with Republicans on a mostly bipartisan basis. A big part of why Democrats are doing so well in Colorado is that bipartisan spirit and, so far, not engaging in a new partisanship from the liberal side.

  7. BeYourGuest says:

    Grognard–

Is that why she’s scary–because she might make the Democrats as bad as the Republicans actually are?

That’s not intended to be sarcastic. In fact, it actually makes some sense. I’ve just never thought of it that way.

    Thanks for your comment.

As near as I can tell Pelosi will try to replicate the Colorado scenario in the US House, which wouldn’t involve much more really than restoring the status quo ante Delay and his minions.

At least that what Dems have been saying so far.

Just to let people know. The fact Michael doesn’t live here is irrelevant to his reaction to what he reads and his opinions on it. We also have a blogger who lives in New Delhi, another who lives elsewhere in Europe. Jack Grant wrote great posts from France and now lives in Texas. So when people decide to throw that it is meaningless, really. The best way to discuss issues is to state why you disagree and what you think is a counter argument. Pelosi hasn’t scared me but then I’ve lived long enough to have known Fred Flintstone and was a political science major. I’ve also seen this administration redefine the rules and modus operendi on a lot of things such as conventional wisdom on the powers of the branches of the federal government and other matters to the extent where Goldwater Republicans are upset. But because I may see it differently just means…I may see it differently. Again, if people want to throw out the fact that someone lives in India is meaningless to their view then I guess we should stop posting on any races or elections that don’t occur in our own home towns. Bloggers read, write and opine on all kinds of things. That’s just a bit of feedback; I don’t always even have time to see comments but I truly think using that argument undermines anything else someone may say. In my own case, I read that and I pretty much stop reading the rest of the comment. It really is best to outline why you feel differently and you might change a few minds (that approach really works, you know)

  10. BeYourGuest says:

Who’s making fun of Michael for being a European here? Am I just missing it? (If you deleted some offending comments on those grounds, thanks!)

Michael put up a pretty dopey post and then defended himself with the limp excuse that he was making a joke. The reason we’re complaining is that we expect–and usually get–better from him.

If it wasn’t worth arguing with him–and with people who agree with him–he wouldn’t get such long comment threads to his posts.

  11. SnarkyShark says:

Well Michael, I will agree with you on some of it. Some of that plastic surgery she has had kind of scares me.

As for a leader, shes done just fine so far.

Democrats strategy is to make goverment work. People will not forget who made the mess.

  12. Joe says:

Note the first comment above which has this:
“What in that article was scary to someone that doesn’t even live here?” This has popped up before on posts written by our cobloggers who don’t live in the U.S. I don’t live in Connecticut. So that means I can’t express an opinion that deserves consideration because I live in California? It’s silly but I know that won’t stop people but I wanted to say that for the record. Also, what one person considers dumb or senseless another considers correct. Just listen to Air America and then Rush Limbaugh in the same day. The key is to dissect an argument and say what’s falacious about it then state your case. But I know people will do it their way…I just wanted to put in my two cents (which I know some will consider dum and senseless).

I agree in theory that this is how it should work, but I’ve noticed that I have had a more liberal bent since coming here. Possibly, that is because defending my point of view to those to the right of me has consolidated my positions and made me realize that comparatively speaking, I am a liberal these days. During Viet Nam, I probably would have been seen as a conservative, LOL!

  14. grognard says:

jjc, if the national Dems follow the Colorado Dems it will resonate with the independents. All of the rhetoric about impeachment and people being pilloried over the war would prove to be unfounded and the fear mongering look foolish. If the Dems do this they will be seen as the party that has the maturity to responsibly govern, and that will be the key to winning future elections.

  15. Matt says:

I’m waiting for the Republicans to put up the Grandma’s Gone Wild (in congress) ad up…its only a matter of time

  16. Kim Ritter says:

    Nancy’s agenda:

    1. Impeach Bush.
    2. Legalize gay marriage
    3. Rename Reagan National Airport after Jimmy Carter
    4. Take enemy combatants home for a nice treat of milk and cookies
    5. Secretly negotiate with Kim Jong Il to have him supply USB with suitcase nukes.
6.Revoke the partial birth abortion ban
    7. Enact the largest tax increase in US history on those making 200,000 and over.
    8. Force FNC to reschedule “The Factor with Bill O’ Reilly” for 5 AM
9.Rename the US the USR or United Socialist’s Republic.
    10. Enact birth to death entitlements for all illegal aliens.

  17. Jim S says:

    MvdG,

The problem is that most of the time humor can’t be conveyed in type in as few as three words. People here know you’re conservative and if you took the current RNC talking points about Pelosi seriously you just might not be kidding. One thing that bugged me about the article is the comment about refusing to negotiate with the Republicans. In our system once the Republicans had the majority in the House and Senate and the Presidency anything they want is theirs unless some Republicans vote against it. Why is any negotiation ever necessary? Only to make the Republicans look like they’re listening to the Democrats when the final result reflects nothing the Democrats wanted.

  18. Kim Ritter says:

Jim S- Good point about Pelosi’s refusal to negotiate with House Republicans!

    TITLE: Pelosi’s Pontifications
    BLOG NAME: Wake up America
I am beginning to believe there might be a November surprise yet…. not a prediction, just something for people to think about. What if Democrats LOSE seats instead of gaining them? Think it is impossible? Improbable maybe, but nothing is impossible…
