We’re Not Laughing AT You, We’re Laughing WITH You

If one of my co-bloggers at TMV already saw and posted this round-up of the Top Ten Funniest Political Quotes Of 2006, I apologize for the duplication, but this is just too good and too sad to miss.

(Speaking of sad, did you read the one about the hot new gift for this holiday season of love, peace, and joy?)

  1. whahahaha Pete… that article at your place is absolutely hilarious. Now that’s funny.

“Liberal and progressive Christian groups say a new computer game in which players must either convert or kill non-Christians is the wrong gift to give this holiday season …”

No … really … ya think?

While we’re at it: Maybe any video or computer game where anybody for any reason must convert or kill someone is the wrong gift to give this holiday season.

    LMAO!

“In the time of peace and love, here is a videogame in which you have to kill those who refuse to convert… Good luck! Kill as many infidels as possible!!!!”

    LOL

  2. Lynx says:

    To be fair this quote:

    6) Rep. Bob Wexler: “I enjoy cocaine because it’s a fun thing to do. (July 21)

was taken wayyy out of context. By itself one is agog that a politician would say such a thing. Then you get to the circumnstances. He was being interviewed by Steven Colbert (If you don’t know him you should, he’s Jon Stewarts protegé). Rep Wexler was running unopposed in his district. Colbert told him that because of this they could have some fun, and say things that in said seriously would utterly mess up a real election. It was a “complete my sentence” and Colbert said “I enjoy cocaine because….”. It was fictional, it was clearly stated that it was a joke and OF COURSE had no relation to reality.

  3. Gray62 says:

    Imho Biden’s best:
“You CANNOT go into a 7-11 or a Dunkin Donuts without an Indian accent.

Hehehe, nope, you CAN! Stumbling by chance into a 7-11 in a predominantly African-american quarter in NO, my Germany actually became the main attraction for shoppers and staff within seconds. I felt like a stand-up comedian, in the middle of a small crowd firing questions at me just to hear the guy with the funny tongue talk.

Since then, I have a very low opinion on the quality of amrerican entertainment. Your folks seem to be starved for some fun! :D

  4. Gray62 says:

“my Germany”? Oops? Sure, bought it at E-Bay. :)
Of course, I wanted to write ‘my german accent’…

  5. Pete Abel says:

Thanks, Lynx. That was the one quote I had to read twice, and then yes, I assumed there had to be something up with it.

And I should have guessed either Colbert or Stewart had something to do with it.

Even as a joke, it’s funny, no?

  6. C Stanley says:

Biden’s remark was pretty funny (perhaps he’s been watching too much of “the Simpsons”)

I also LOL’ed at Bush’s comment to the blind reporter (oops!)

And, somehow I missed hearing about the quote from Nancy Pelosi that one of the commenters posted:

“The gavel of the speaker of the House is in the hands of special interests, and now it will be in the hands of America’s children.

I have to agree with the commenter, that was priceless and should have been in the top ten.

Another favorite is Jeff “I see dead people” Sessions’ remark LOL

  7. C Stanley says:

    And on that video game…Sheesh…

I may have to rethink my opinion about Pope Benedict focusing on dialogue with Muslims about reason and religion; perhaps some Christian groups are still in need of a lecture on the topic as well.

  8. Gray62 says:

“The gavel of the speaker of the House is in the hands of special interests, and now it will be in the hands of America’s children.

    If I had a hammer… :D

  9. GreenDreams says:

Colbert is outrageous and very funny, but if journalists start taking quotes out of context, it becomes dangerous. Colbert asked Edwards, with respect to the Shooter Cheney incident, who he’d shoot in the face. Edwards, clearly uncomfortable with the question, but going along with the joke, said “Dick Cheney”. Edwards isn’t advocating anything of the sort, and neither was Bob Wexler.

The Kerry joke got lots of play but was almost verbatim what my parents told me during Vietnam. And it wasn’t about soldiers being stupid (of course there was a draft then).

  10. Lynx says:

LOL C. Stanley I hadn’t read the Pelosi quote, it’s priceless. I can imagine the poor reporters, looking straight at Pelosi and struggling to keep from laughing.

  11. Ryan says:

It’s as funny to read the comments there as the original post. People on both sides, especially that Republican trying to claim that the only political affiliation mentioned was Rep(resentative) Wexler. People will find a vast (fill in the blank) wing conspiracy anywhere they want to.

As for that game, a not so nice reminder that all religions are used by idiots to promote violence, even though the true believers of all religions understand that their religion is about peace.
