Good. Now the Israelis can fix the major oil spill they caused w/ their bombings and the Lebanese can fix the environmental destruction they caused in Israel due to Hez.
And the never-ending cycle is right on its very predictable course- tensions lead to violence-violence leads to condemnation of the world community-leads to involvement of the world community in pressuring both parties for a peace settlement- peace settlement leads to return to normalcy-return to normalcy will lead to increased tensions.
Why would you consider this good news, unless you believe hezbollah being able to rearm is good news. You don’t actually believe Lebanon and the UN are going to prevent hezbollah’s rearmament, do you?

Well Laura, I know one basic thing. Whatever be the provocation it is extremely short-sighted and dangerous for one country to enter another country saying that “we are invading you because you have terrorists on your soil”.
If this precedent is set then we have bloody mayhem in the world and any country can then enter any other country on the pretext of chasing “terrorists”. Even if you have the brute force and muscle power and do that, the consequences are there for all of us to see.
When we live as a member of the comity of nations, we have to abide by the procedures in the international law. Otherwise what is the difference between a terrorist and a President and the Prime Minister of another country.
Why did Israel withdraw from Lebanon? Because the realisation dawned on Israeli leaders that their troops’ extended stay in Lebanon would demoralise their troops, make the international opinion extremely hostile, and Israel would still not be able to disarm Hezbollah.
Which means that certain other options, including discussions and negotiations, have to be thought of to solve highly complex problems within the framework of laws laid by the comity of nations.
Israel has sensibly understood the need for an effective long-term strategy and thus withdrawn from Lebanon. A single nation cannot prevent the spawning of terrorism unless there is a unity among a majority of leaders in the world to prevent this menace.
A single nation cannot prevent the spawning of terrorism unless there is a unity among a majority of leaders in the world to prevent this menace.
But what are single nations to do in the meantime, since there is no unity among majority of leaders in the world to prevent this menace? It’s like saying that there shouldn’t be vigilantism against crime…but individuals will do what they must to protect themselves if there is no police force to deal with crime. This is the same thing on a geopolitical scale.
C Stanley if you read today’s news item in NYT, and my post, about the lies spoken by the Bush administration regarding the ground reality in Iraq you would not know who is a terrorist and who is not a terrorist. So please don’t get emotional and pass a judgement.
Let the weapons for Hezbollah flow.

Kim,
That sounds like the past 5000 years of Human existence in a nutshell.
Great observation Kim. This is called full circle.
Once the entire power on this earth passed on to the monkeys. They finished everyone not belonging their species.
Then they started fighting among themselves. Acquired dangerous weapons…war broke out and all were killed, except one HE Monkey and one SHE Monkey.
The HE monkey slowly moved closer to the SHE monkey and whispered in her ear: “LET US BEGIN THE CREATION ALL OVER AGAIN”.
This is the fu**ing reality my dear chap!!!
