Apparently, John Bolton has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. This is not all that notable, since (as been harped on again and again), anyone can nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize. Yet that didn’t stop the powerful conservative “think” tank known as the Family Research Council from trumpeting it as proof of Bolton’s kind and gentle demeanor:
Some in the Senate like to paint Ambassador Bolton as someone who is out of control and a war hawk. However they fail to explain how such a man could be nominated for the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize, as John Bolton has been.
Incidentally, my take on Bolton is that he is fighting the right battles, but in a manner that will lose the war. I agree we need strong leadership at the UN–it’s the only way that the comatose body even has a chance of doing anything useful. But Bolton is not the guy to do it.
