As sectarian violence soars, many Sunni Arab political and religious leaders once staunchly opposed to the American presence here are now saying they need American troops to protect them from the rampages of Shiite militias and Shiite-run government forces, says NYT.
Yeah, it’s still our broken pot. It’s just a new set of cracks to mend.
20 year deployment, 100′s of billions gonna be spent, and 1000′s more dead US troops if Brian’s version is followed through.
Just like Britian in the early 20th century.
I’m waitng for all the Bush nieces and nephews to sign up at the recruiting station and lead us on the GWOT.
I’m waiting for dumba$$es like Rudi to put a plug in it and stop sounding like idiots. I can tell you 3 things that 98 percent of the guys and gals I served with in the 90′s would tell you. 1) No one wants to serve in a foxhole with someone who didn’t want to be there. 2) Not everyone is cut out to be a soldier. It isn’t a values thing, it is a discipine thing. If they don’t have that, please see above foxhole point. 3) You don’t have to serve to lead or even have an opinion. Civilian leadership is pretty inportant to military types. Seem they have to pledge to defend the Constitution and it is pretty big on the whole civilian in charge thing.
“Seem they have to pledge to defend the Constitution ”
Defend which constitution? United States, or Iraq’s?
Because as I see it, they are defending Iraq’s right now by policing their streets. The war was over in 2003 this is the police action now, since the Iraqi police/army has had 2+ years to get its butt in gear as opposed to 6 weeks? for our army to train before deployment. By this standard the Iraqi army should be the best trained on the planet by now.
Seem they have to pledge to defend the Constitution and it is pretty big on the whole civilian in charge thing.
Yeah, I took that pledge too. I consider uniformed loud mouth chickenhawks to be a threat to the constitution of thedomestic varity.
Look at results dude. This path we are on was charted by people whose ideas on war were formented by watching John Wayne movies.
Sure people who haven’t served can have ideas about the use of military force can have ideas. But that isn’t to say those same peoples ideas are full of shit.
There was like one combat vetern in the whole chickenhwkcoop, and you will notice he is no longer there.
Nope, people who think service is for suckers and other people need to have their hands forcefully removed from the levers of powers so they can do what they do best. Let some loudmouth radio demaugauge tell em what to think and scream at the neighborhood kids to get off the lawn.
It is chickenhawks like Bush and Kristol who pushed us into this war in Iraq and the GWOT. Yet their loved ones won’t be bleeding or fighting in Iraq or Afghanistan. Pat Tilman gave up a pro football career and his life to defend this country. Bush’s nephew defended W on Good Morning America, why noy defend his country and his uncle. Like I commented on another post, these idiot chickenhawks claim we are in WWIII, in WWII the public rationed, planted Victory gardens and sacrifiiced their sons to fight a real war. If the Bush’s and Kristol’s believe their propaganda, why don’t their children believe with the same passion and fight the GWOT?
I say we play a support role only. If our soldiers get caught up in a civil war, they will end up being targetted by both sides. We are supposed to be letting the Iraqi army and police force stand up. In order for them to do that, we need to get out of their way.
I went on a site that researched the military service records of the current and recent Republican leadership and —surprise, surprise, with the exception of Chuck Hagel,John McCain and a couple others, most avoided the draft. Cheney, Rove, Lott, Frist, Delay, Hastert, Allen, Gingrich, Santorum, Blunt, McConnell , Ashcroft, Chambliss, Kyl, Watts, Doolittle, Cornyn, Giulaini,J. Bush and Reagan (who made movies during WWII due to a medical disability) never served.
Kind of hard to “Swiftboat” someone who never served. If they didn’t serve, do you think their children will serve. Webb(former Republican) the Democratic candidate in Virginia is campaigning in an old pair of combat boots used by his son. His son is being deployed to Iraq. Maybe W wears his daughters shoes in the Whitehouse at night, maybe even a crossdresser.
The U S should sit down, especially the right wingers, and take a pill…not sides.
And as I see it happening in Iraq…our troops are defending themselves from minute to minute moreover any constitution….and believe me staying alive and reasonbly intact over there is tough enough without worrying about politics here at home and indecisive idiot political duffesses that never served that have no idea how to prosecute a war.
