Cannabis or Hashish: A Healer Or A Killer?

For decades, some holy cities and tourist destinations in India have attracted foreigners in view of the open use of cannabis/marijuana/hashish, especially in the post-Beatles days. Can it be clubbed with cocaine and heroin in terms of its after-effects?

The debate goes on…So those interested can find out here.

Cannabis is believed to have been used in India as early as 1000 B.C.E. In mainstream, lay religious usage, it is usually taken in liquid form as bhang and used during religious ceremonies such as marriage, as well as the Hindu celebrations of Holi and Baisakhi (even in affluent/educated sections of the society).

Hashish, or charas, is widely smoked by Shaivite devotees, and cannabis itself is seen as a gift of Shiva to aid in sadhana (meditation). Wandering ascetic sadhus are often seen smoking hashish/charas with a chillum. Quick Seek gives details.

For more on its imbibing traditions in other religions you may find here.

Cannibas was put on earth for man to enjoy and use to his benifit. Recent studies (and the one older Jamacian study) shows that it can actually reduce the risk of cancer. But it can also make you feel good and think of things from a different perspective. Which is why it must be fought tooth and nail by the “I know best crowd” who wish to keep everybody as stupid and unhappy as they are.

We’ll know the United States is on the road to recovery when they adopt the atitude the Dutch have. We’ll know the Dutch are on the road to right wing lunacy when they try to re-crimanalize.

So what if the euro-trash are piling in there to smoke some chronic. Jack the prices and make some cash. Thats a long Dutch tradition.
