NBC News’ Chuck Todd reports that Rep. Bart Stupak is now poised to support HCR legislation in the House:
The chances for House passage increased Sunday afternoon after a possible agreement between Democratic leaders and Rep. Bart Stupak, D-Mich., who had led a group of anti-abortion lawmakers in opposing the bill, was revealed.
Stupak is now poised to support the bill, NBC’s Chuck Todd reported. Stupak told CNN that there is no deal yet but that he and the White House are “close” to an agreement. “It’s a work in progress,” he said.
If this agreement materializes, Democrats are poised to surpass the 216 mark in this historic legislation.
Stay tuned
If Stupak bloc votes Yes, clearly it passes.
Though some reports on CNN say it's not a deal yet…
It's a done deal.
Stupak can be made to hold his nose and vote Aye, if Pelosi is any good. If not, enough others have come along (accompanied by special interests of all kinds) that it shouldn't matter any more. I still suspect we'll have as many as another 10+ threads about this lefty obscession on this site, though.
There's been a lot of hype and hysteria by the Left, including on this site. Regrettable, though predictable.
Another item of many neglected is obvious:
Stupak (and related Dems we never had named) has or had been a more substantial, coherent, functional opposition to getting this bill passed than have the Republicans (even after adjusting for far-left hype and obscession with abortion).
DLS, if you trip over a crack in the sidewalk do you blame it on the “far-left”? (The answer is too easy.)
Anyway, when this is all over, Stupak will fade back into non-entity status – which is where he belongs.
Don't assume others behave as you may be prone.
Stupak or others may be revived again, by the usual crowd, when abortion revives politically someday.
